The “Media and The Military” panel discussion from Thursday afternoon, taken shortly after the surprise cameo by Mark Burnett. I’ll post the moderator’s and panelists’ names as soon as possible.

Thoughts and take-aways I tweeted during the session:

1. Does one have to “be” in the military in order to cover the military? (Thoughts from a former colonel, sci-fi writer and journalist on the panel.)
2. Integral to military news coverage and commentary by mainstream and online media: Narrative.
3. Most soldiers won’t talk to bloggers and journos until you’ve walked 20 miles in their boots, carrying a 120-lb. load in the field.
4. There are so few films that most military personnel think, “Hey, Hollywood got it right.”
5. Storytellers have an obligation to share death and destruction. And it sucks. But it must be done with compassion.

A small band of U.S. Army Soldiers were present, representing ArmyStrongStories.com (more on that later). And, if I can muster enough courage, I’ll blog later about how I lost my iPad during this session.

Smooth flight, though. Now begins the scramble to upload my last 36 hours at BlogWorld.

And reliable wi-fi, at long last. Life is good.

I felt compelled to provide at least one last update live from BlogWorld before I cram my swag bag into my suitcase and head home.

I captured a lot of content to share from the sessions, video from the show and even a few fun pics from evening events. My most productive plane ride in my history of air travel awaits, even if I hog most of the in-flight wi-fi.

Cameo by Mark Burnett of “Survivor” and “The Apprentice” reality television fame.

He also happens to be a former British paratrooper, and wished to partake in the “Media and The Military” session prior to the panel discussion. We were treated to a sneak peek of an Alaskan film project in the works that only Burnett’s producers have seen besides us. Not too shabby.
